Rajesh Regmi founded SPOWC
– The Society for the Protection of Women and Children
– a non-profit charity organization in 2005 with the objective of providing basic education to underprivileged children, as well as supporting women and their families in Nepal.
"How can children who grow up in poverty hope for a better future? How do they survive? What do they dream of? Many of them grow old with little to no prospects. Would their lives be different if someone reached out to help lift them from this cycle of hardship? Why must they endure such suffering?" These were the questions that haunted Rajesh every day as he passed small children begging for food and money on his way to work. It was this sight that first sparked his desire to make a difference in their lives.
In the same year, Rajesh established an informal school in one of the slums in Tilganga. With just two classrooms, 25 students, and four teachers, the school was modest but full of hope. Convincing families to send their children to school was challenging, as many children were already working to support their families. But Rajesh knew that education was the key to breaking the cycle of poverty.
This was the beginning of a journey to offer these children not just survival, but the chance to thrive.
